Rittenhouse Square is about to get a whole lot better. Spruce Street Commons is proud to welcome Enswell, an all day cafe, to the ground floor of The Touraine. Enswell is a collaboration between Rival Brothers Coffee and New Liberty Distillery.

Spruce Street Commons has been working closely with Rival Brothers Coffee to fully renovate and redesign the former coffee shop at The Touraine. We’re giving you an exclusive inside look at Enswell and highlighting the local businesses, artisans and creatives that brought this project to life.

About Enswell 

Rival Brothers Coffee partnered with New Liberty Distillery to create Enswell. During the day, visitors can expect a stellar coffee experience as with all Rival Brothers Coffee locations. The coffee focused beverage program will transition to libations for the evening. Enswell will feature New Liberty Distillery spirits as well as a curated selection of Pennsylvania beer and wine. The evening menu features a collection of lighter fare including fresh salads, elevated toasts and sandwiches, as well as larger tasting plates to share. Don’t pass on dessert and end your night with the gelato sundae with espresso. All’s well that Enswell!

Featured Artisans, Vendors & Makers

This project has been a labor of love in the City of Brotherly Love. Each small business, artisan, and vendor that has contributed to the transformation of Enswell are all located right here in Philadelphia (some just blocks from The Annex and The Touraine). Rival Brothers Coffee

With multiple locations throughout Philadelphia, Rival Brothers Coffee brings a new and exciting concept to Spruce Street. Rival Brothers Coffee offers a selection of custom, house roasted blends and single origin coffee and teas as well as breakfast and baked goods.

New Liberty Distillery

Located just minutes from Center City, New Liberty Distillery is a craft distillery focusing on a variety of spirits such as whiskey, bourbon, liqueurs and aperitifs. Enswell will be serving up specialty craft cocktails made with spirits from New Liberty Distillery. There will also be a variety of bottles for sale at Enswell.

Mellow Gold Studio

Enswell’s branding was brought to life thanks to the team at Mellow Gold Studio, a branding and marketing studio.

Stokes Architecture & Design

We’ve partnered with Stokes Architecture + Design to complete a full-scale renovation of the space that includes a new bar, an expanded kitchen, additional seating for guests both indoors and outdoors, and thoughtful displays as part of the bottle shop.

Workerman Studios

The father and son duo behind Workerman Studios built all the custom cabinets, wall treatments and the beautiful back bar walls. The team’s respect for traditional techniques and original materials made them perfect for renovating this historic space.

Reverend Michael Alan

Local artist and illustrator Reverend Michael Alan specializes in a variety of mediums and styles from hand-lettering to ink and watercolor paintings. Reverend Michael Alan designed and painted a custom mural that will be featured inside the cafe.

Martin Industries

Family-owned and operated for over 60 years, Martin Industries is a furniture company specializing in custom furniture, upholstery, fabrics and accessories. Martin Industries built a large custom banquette that will serve a space for people to gather, chat over a cup of coffee, or unwind over cocktails.

Holzman Iron Studio

Enswell is a part cafe, part bottle shop. Holzman Iron Studio is well known for its custom architectural ironwork and old-world craftsmanship. The team at Holzman Iron Studio created stunning antique brass knee walls and the retail display shelving for Enswell.

Samuel Markey Productions

Throughout this exciting build, we’ve had the opportunity to partner with Samuel Markey Productions to capture a variety of timelapse videos throughout the build out. Click the video above to view our most recent update on Enswell (as of July 2023).

Ashn Earth

Enswell features unique works of art from local artists in Philadelphia. Ashn Earth, a local florist in the city, makes beautiful sculptures made from flowers and foraged pieces. We’ve had the pleasure of working with Ashn Earth for a fall floral installation at The Touraine and can’t wait to show you what their team has done at Enswell.
